Leicester round off a great year with a point against Man City

City completed half the league programme level on points with leaders Arsenal after a battling 0-0 draw at home to Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Claudio Ranieri made two changes to his side with Drinkwater and Inler in for Okazaki and King.
Although it was the visitors who had the best of the opening spell Leicester created the first real chance, Fuchs chipping a free-kick forward which Huth headed narrowly over the bar.
De Bruyne then tested Schmeichel with a well struck shot, before the constantly threatening Agüero had a shot deflected into the City keeper’s grasp.
After Morgan had broken up a dangerous move involving Silva and Sterling, Mahrez then dispossessed Kolarov before sending a shot just over the bar.

As Man City stepped up the pressure Schmeichel denied Sterling twice, but it was the home side who finished the half on top.
Albrighton went agonisingly close to reaching a Fuchs cross at the far post; and then Vardy burst through the middle, getting ahead of the superb Mangala for once, but he lifted his shot high of the target.

The second half continued at the same searing pace and De Bruyne’s cross was met by Agüero at the near post but he couldn’t convert the chance.
Kanté then charged forward from midfield and unleashed a low shot that was inches wide.
Ulloa came on for Inler in the 67th minute after Manuel Pellegrini had brought Bony on for  Agüero.

Bony’s first effort saw him send a shot over the bar from a good position.
Drinkwater sent Vardy in on the left with a fine pass, but the England striker’s angled drive was saved by Hart.
Sterling and Silva were also withdrawn from play and there was little drama in the closing stages as both sides guarded their point.

2015 may well have been the greatest year in the history of Leicester City Football Club and this was a fitting end.
Claudio Ranieri outlined the task that faces us in the New Year: “We’re the basement and the other teams are a villa with a swimming pool. It’s not easy for us but we want to fight with everybody.”

Leicester defeated by Champions

Leicester City 0:1 Manchester City

Leicester City v Man City, Barclays Premier, 13 December, 2014

Leicester put in a decent performance against Champions Manchester City on Saturday, but yet another defeat left an air of resignation hanging over the KPS…Nigel Pearson made four changes to his starting line-up with Hamer, Morgan, Drinkwater and King in for Schmeichel, Moore, James and Ulloa.
Manuel Pellegrini had to change his plans when Dzeko injured himself during the pre-match warm-up.
Leicester started brightly with a couple of explosive runs from Vardy – one saw his cross for Schlupp cut out by Kompany;  and then he burst into the Man City penalty area though Mangala did enough to ensure he fired wide of the right hand post.
Cambiasso then missed the target after an error from Mangala before the visitor’s defence settled in.
After a fierce Toure shot was blocked by  Simpson, Leicester were inches away from taking the lead when a long range free-kick from Cambiasso whistled past the right hand post with Hart beaten.
Hamer’s first serious action came after half an hour  when he came off his line well to get a fist to a Silva free-kick. It fell for Pozo 20 yards out but Hamer had recovered his ground to comfortably field his first time shot.
Hamer then got down well to parry a low Toure effort, but could do nothing about the Champions opening goal five minutes before the break.
Leicester City v Man City, Barclays Premier, 13 December, 2014As Man City broke upfield, Nasri crossed for Lampard, who was completely unmarked in the middle and only had to place the ball past Hamer for the lead.
After all the effort of the first half, a defensive mistake had cost Leicester dear again.
The second half was broken up by endless free-kicks with the ref reluctant to allow any contact.
Silva missed the target from a decent chance, while up the other end a Mangala challenge on Vardy brought penalty appeals more in hope than expectation.
Ulloa, Powell and Knockaert were all introduced into the action, but Man City were content to sit on their lead and attack on the break.
Ulloa managed a shot on the turn, and Knockaert fired a free-kick was into the wall, but Hart had very little to do.
Leicester City v Man City, Barclays Premier, 13 December, 2014Ulloa sent an effort over the bar after a Morgan nod down the game was up.

Leicester were in no way embarrassed by their illustrious opponents, but another poor piece of defending ensured that they got nothing for their efforts and they remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.
Director of Football Terry Robinson did not survive the weekend, leaving the club on Sunday evening. We await further developments, though it is difficult to see any course of action that could preserve our long-awaited and hard fought for place in the top flight.

Leicester: Hamer, Konchesky, Drinkwater (Knockaert 79), Morgan, Vardy (Powell 72), King, Schlupp (Ulloa 64), Simpson, Cambiasso, Mahrez, Wasilewski. Subs Not Used: Hammond, James, Moore, Smith.
Man City: Hart, Sagna, Kompany (Demichelis 77), Fernando, Nasri, Lampard (Milner 60), Mangala, Silva, Clichy, Toure, Pozo (Navas 73) . Subs Not Used: Kolarov, Caballero, Fernandinho.

Referee: J Moss. Attendance: 31,643.
