Late this afternoon Leicester City announced that Claudio Ranieri had been appointed to the vacant manager’s position thus ending several weeks of speculation which featured some unlikely and, at times, frightening names on the bookies’ short list.
63 year-old Ranieri has signed a 3 year contract which will bring to an end the media free-for-all that always goes hand-in-hand with any Premier League managerial vacancy. Ranieri has managed in England previously with Chelsea where he earned the nickname ‘Tinkerman’ and was a casualty following the arrival of Roman Abramovich despite taking them in to the Champions League in 2004. Since his time at Chelsea he has managed Valencia, Parma, Juventus, Roma, Inter Milan, Monaco and even the Greek national side.
His arrival will hopefully create some stability at the club and encourage Esteban Cambiasso to sign a new contract. Our first chance to see the new manager in charge of the side will come at Lincoln City on 21st July
