Bottom-placed Burnley earned a point at the King Power Stadium on Saturday with Wallace’s free-kick levelling the game at 2-2 deep into injury time…
Nigel Pearson made two changes to the starting line-up that lost at Palace, with Mahrez and Schlupp in for Cambiasso and Nugent.
After Jutkiewicz missed the target with an early chance, City had the lion’s share of possession against a Burnley side that looked low on confidence. A Drinkwater effort failed to test Heaton and a Vardy effort was blocked.
Mahrez was City’s best player in an often frustrating first half and one lovely run took him past two defenders but his shot lacked the power to beat Heaton.
A Mahrez corner was then deflected to Moore but his snapshot went narrowly wide.
Schmeichel then fielded a Barnes shot from range.
City then took a 33rd minute lead, Mahrez making it look easy on the right, feeding a ball into the centre for Schlupp to fire home.
However, this lead only lasted for 6 minutes as the City defence went AWOL. A ball into the six yard area was nodded down by Jutkiewicz and Kightly stabbed it past Schmeichel with very little blue-shirted resistance.
Perhaps a little heady at scoring their first goal in over ten hours Burnley then let City back in to regain the lead before halftime.
In the 41st minute a Vardy cross from the left was deflected up off the leg of a Clarets defender into the path of Mahrez who nodded home at the far post.
City struggled to impose themselves on the visitors in the second half, and Sean Dyche’s men created a couple of chances.
Jutkiewicz went close with a header, and then Schmeichel had to be very alert to charge out of his area and beat Sordell to a through ball.
Pearson shffled his pack, bringing Nugent, Knockaert and James on for Ulloa, Mahrez and Hammond, but still City were unable to take charge.
Vardy was denied a couple of times when he looked set to burst through the middle, and then Heaton produced a great save to deny Moore after he got a firm header to a Knockaert flag kick.
After lengthy treatment for Trippier who had to be stetchered off, the game entered a sixth minute of time-added on when a James foul earned Burnley a free-kick on the edge of the area.
Wallace appeared to be offered a good portion of the goal by Schmeichel’s position and he duly took it, sending his free-kick over the wall and into the net.
One last rally by City came to nought and they had to settle for a point when three had looked to be there for the taking.
