Leicester earn a point at Reading

Reading 1:1 Leicester City Reading v Leicester City, Sky Bet Championship, 14 April 2014, City had to settle for a point at the Madejski Stadium on Monday night with a fine goal from Danny Drinkwater cancelling out Pearce’s early opener… Nigel Pearson made five changes to his side with Vardy returning from injury along with De Laet, Schlupp, Dyer and Hammond. The home side had the best of the opening spell with Pogrebnyak having an effort blocked by Wasilewski and Gunter firing over his hurried follow-up. City did have the ball in the net after ten minutes, when Schlupp’s low cross from the left when turned in by Vardy, but his position inside the six yard box was slightly offside. Instead it was Reading who took the lead soon afterwards when Pearce headed an Obita free-kick beyond Schmeichel’s reach and into the bottom right hand corner. It was almost 2-0 just before the half hour when Schmeichel and Wasilewski both threw themselves at a McAnuff shot from close in and managed to block. Reading v Leicester City, Sky Bet Championship, 14 April 2014, Two minutes later City struck back with a bolt out of the blue.  Drinkwater received a ball from Hammond and flipped it up before half volleying a cracking drive from 30 yards that left McCarthy motionless in the Royals’ goal. City then came agonisingly close to going in at half time with the lead, but Morgan couldn’t direct his free header from a Mahrez corner downwards and it sailed over the bar. Reading v Leicester City, Sky Bet Championship, 14 April 2014, Early in the second half Nugent sent a shot narrowly over the bar; while at the other end Pogrebnyak sent his header against the post. McCarthy then denied Drinkwater from close range as City started to take a hold of the game. Morgan then put another header over and a period of sustained pressure from a series of corners failed to produce a second goal. With Wood on for Vardy and Taylor-Fletcher replacing Nugent City continued to press forward. Then substitute Leigertwood picked up his second yellow in a short appearance for a foul on Mahrez, and from then Reading were content to defend their point.
