Leicester City 1:1 Yeovil Town
City rescued a point from a poor performance at home to Yeovil on Tuesday night, but confusion reigned at the end of the game…
An unchanged City side dominated possession in the early stages of this game, but couldn’t find a way through a determined Yeovil back line, fighting for their Championship status.
The Glovers then shocked a large and expectant crowd in the 22nd minute by taking the lead, Ralls arrowing home a low free-kick from 20 yards that definitely wasn’t in the script.
City continued to press forward but Mahrez lofted one comfortable effort over the bar and efforts from Drinkwater and Schlupp were saved by Stech.
The harder City tried the worse things got with passes going frustratingly astray up to the break.
The second half wasn’t much better with an oddly out of tune performance from City.
Miller almost made it 2-0 early on but Schmeichel pulled off a fine save.
Despite many moves breaking down, chances did come City’s way: Schlupp fired just wide, Morgan headed off-target and a fierce drive from Drinkwater was saved by Stech.
Late on City went at Yeovil in waves, but the visitors made it to 90 minutes without being breached, Stech denying substitute Phillips with another good stop.
At that stage Schmeichel joined the attack, and stayed up front for a couple of corners. His lively presence appeared to confuse the Yeovil defence and in the 92nd minute he sent in a thumping header from a Drinkwater corner that struck the underside of the bar and appeared to cross the line. Although neither ref or linesman signalled a goal Wood was on hand to net the rebound and City’s proud unbeaten run was extended to 18 games.
It might well have been the worst performance of the season, but City’s never-say-die attitude ensured that the evening ended on a triumphant note.
