City battle for a point at Blackburn

Blackburn Rovers 1:1 Leicester City

City couldn’t keeping their winning run going at Blackburn on Saturday, but extended their unbeaten run to 17 games with a hard-fought 1-1 draw…

Nigel Pearson named an unchanged starting XI against a Blackburn side that gave City more problems than they’ve been used to in recent weeks.
But after an early spell of pressure for the home side it was the league leaders who took a 20th minute lead. A bit of Mahrez magic played De Laet in on the right and his low cross found Vardy who applied the finishing touch from close in.
Schmeichel then defended City’s lead with a good save from the in-form Rhodes.
A chance to go 2-0 was missed when Mahrez set up Vardy, but the City striker missed his chance to make it 7 goals in 6 games.
And two minutes before the break City were to rue that missed opportunity as Kilgallon got his head to a corner at the near post which beat keeper and defenders on the line.

This bouyed Rovers for the second half and they had a very good spell after the break, although City did breakaway for a golden chance, again missed by the usually lethal Vardy.  The City striker broke clear and rounded Robinson, but then fired his angled shot against the left hand upright.
As Rovers continued to press forward a slip up from De Laet allowed Conway in for an effort which Schmeichel did very well to block.
In an attempt to tighten things up Pearson brought Hammond and Moore on for came on for Knockaert and De Laet, but Kigallon then sent a header narrowly wide.

However it was City who finished the stronger as the game entered its closing stages. James and Drinkwater sent shots over the bar, while a goalmouth scramble then saw Vardy and Mahrez denied by Kilgallon and Spurr.
There was then a lengthy spell of treatment for Henley, who was then stretchered off, before a couple of late chances for substitute King came to nought for City.

Over 3,500 City fans had to be content with a point, and the extension of the unbeaten run to 17 games…

Nigel Pearson was checked over by medics at the end of the game after feeling ill, but he was given the all-clear to travel home on the team bus. The final word went to Rovers boss Gary Bowyer:  “Nigel Pearson has been there 2½ years. That shows what you can achieve with stability. People called for Nigel’s head at some points but the Leicester board deserve a lot of credit because they stuck with him. The result of that is they’re going to get promoted.”
