Leicester ease to victory over Charlton

Leicester City 3:0 Charlton Athletic

1314 charlton home

City dominated this meeting with Charlton at the KPS on Saturday, and extended their lead over third place to 13 points…

Nigel Pearson made one change to his side with  Mahrez making his full debut, replacing the injured Dyer.
As usual City went at the opposition right from the first whistle, and they were ahead by the 9th minute.
Knockaert won the ball on the halfway line, getting hurt in the process, which allowed Nugent to send Vardy in for an excellent finish form close in.
Knockaert received lengthy treatment for his injury which caused some concern, but he managed to shrug it off.
He was soon involved in an excellent move involving Wasilewski and Nugent but Hamer managed to block the French winger’s shot.
There was a rare chance for the visitors when a Church latched onto a long ball, but Schmeichel was alert to the danger.
Although City had the lion’s share of possession they couldn’t add to the scoreline before the break: a Nugent header just over the bar and a Mahrez shot that fizzed past the post being the closest they came.
However, before many people had settled into their seats for the second half it was 2-0 and virtually game over.
A Schlupp cross from the left was met in the middle by Nugent, but Harmer pulled off a fine reaction save. The rebound fell for Drinkwater 12 yards out however, and he produced a precise finish into the top left hand corner.
Chris Powell reshuffled his side on the hour with a couple of subs coming on, but City were in unstoppable form and a third goal was added in the 63rd minute.  Nugent carried the ball forward from midfield and fired in a low shot from 20 yards that beat Harmer inside his right hand post  – his 19th goal of the season.
The game was won and Pearson brought on Wood, King and Hammond as City sought a fourth goal.  Schlupp and Nugent both forced good saves from Harmer and City had to be content with a 3-0 win, that extended their unbeaten run to 14 games.
