Record Breaking Leicester give Birmingham the blues

Birmingham City 1:2 Leicester City

City broke an all-time club record at St Andrews on Tuesday night, the 2-1 win over Birmingham was their 8th consecutive league victory…

Nigel Pearson made one change with Wasilewski in for Moore, after his collision with a post against Middlesbrough and it looked like business as usual for City as they applied some early pressure.
James sent a free-kick narrowly wide; Vardy had a shot blocked; and City won a series of corners as Blues struggled to contain City.
After a good Randolph save had denied James City went ahead in the 23rd minute. A lovely ball from Nugent sent Dyer in on goal and he blasted the ball past Randolph and into the roof of the net.
Although Nugent went close with an effort just before the break the 1-0 scoreline at half time didn’t really reflect the leaders’ superiority.

With City looking to add to that lead Dyer forced a good save from Randolph before Bartley sliced an attempted clearance onto his own crossbar.
Pearson then introduced Mahrez for Dyer, the goalscorer making no secret of his dismay at this decision.
In the 83rd minute a scramble in the City area ended when Morgan cleared to Mahrez, who fed the ball to Vardy who raced past his marker before angling a fierce shot across Randolph and into the far corner, sparking some wild celebrations.

Although Birmingham got a late consolation goal from a Lovenkrands near-post header, City were not to be denied the club record of eight consecutive league wins (and four away wins) while further strengthening their place in the automatic promotion places.
