Leicester City 3:0 Millwall
City’s comfortable 3-0 win over Millwall saw them move to the top of the Championship table on Saturday afternoon…
Nigel Pearson gave Miquel his full debut at centre-half while Wasilewski (followed by a coachload of Anderlecht fans) was moved to right back. James and Knockaert replaced King and Hammond in midfield.
In a game that City were to dominate they took a 12th minute lead, when Drinkwater’s chip found Dyer in on the left and he fired home despite Forde’s best efforts
Time and again City allowed Millwall forward and then hit them on the break, Dyer and Knockaert both going close after lightning moves upfield.
As the chances mounted Nugent had a shot blocked by Robinson and then Forde did well to parry a Knockaert effort.
City sealed the game soon after the break.
In the 52nd minute Vardy latched onto a superb throw out from Schmeichel and charged up field evading the attentions of two defenders before slotting the ball through Forde’s legs for a brilliant goal.
With the crowd still buzzing from that effort Vardy added a third goal three minutes later. Alert to a poor Mason back-pass he nipped in to steal the ball, round the keeper and find the net from an acute angle.
After that, with Millwall rarely threatening, it was a case of seeing if City could find a fourth goal, but they couldn’t quite, despite totalling 30 attempts on the Lions’ goal.
It didn’t really matter however, with defeats for Burnley and QPR seeing City go three points clear at the top.
All that remained was for Wasilewski to be carried shoulder high by his Belgian fan club…
