Schmeichel Slip Sees Leicester Go Down at Doncaster

Doncaster Rovers 1:0 Leicester City

1314 doncaster away

A first half clanger from Kasper Schmeichel was the difference between Doncaster and City at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday…

Nigel Pearson named the same starting line-up for the sixth game running but for once it didn’t do the job.
City had the first chance of the game in the 10th minute when Moore headed over from a Knockaert corner, but it was Rovers who benefitted from a major slice of fortune in the 17th minute.
Duffy’s corner from the left looked like a regulation catch for an unhindered Schmeichel, but perhaps with one eye on how he was going to distribute the ball he fumbled it into his own net.
City set about repairing the damage with a good period of attacking play and Knockaert forced a fine save from Rovers’ keeper Turnbull.
At the other end Schmeichel did well to block a fierce angled drive from Robinson.
Macheda then wasted a good opportunity, heading wide when well placed, before City ended the half with a flourish.
Konchesky’s well-struck shot was blocked by Turnbull and then Drinkwater’s shot across goal skimmed the right hand post.

There were no changes for the second half and Doncaster continued to frustrate City with a good defensive display. Knockaert landed a free-kick on top of the goal, Vardy had a chance blocked and Nugent wasted a chance.
The introduction of  Wasilewski and Schlupp for De Laet and Dyer did nothing to changes matters, and after a late mazy run by Knockaert came to nothing the final whistle heralded City’s second defeat of the season.
Poor reward for the City followers who made up a third of the 10,000 crowd.

Nigel Pearson was in a forgiving mood:  “The game’s been settled by one incident really, but we’ve not created enough chances in open play to get back in it in the end. No doubt people will dwell on the goal but there will probably be more talk about it outside our dressing room than inside. Kasper’s been exceptionally good since he came to the club and been responsible for winning matches and picking up lots of points with his performances.”
