Leicester rocked by late Blackpool leveller

Blackpool 2:2 Leicester City

1314 blackpool away

City were denied all three points by a last minute penalty at Bloomfield Road on Saturday afternoon. Despite trailing for much of the game two goals in a minute had given City the lead before a clumsy Schmeichel challenge let the hosts back in via the penalty spot.

For the third game running Nigel Pearson fielded an unchanged side, with new signing Gary Taylor-Fletcher starting on the bench in familiar surroundings.

After a lively start to a match between two sides big on confidence, it was the Seasiders who took a 19th minute lead, when Fuller’s cross from the right was met by Basham who rose above the City defence to nod home.
City pressed forward in search of an equaliser but Knockaert and Nugent were off-target with their efforts.
Just before half-time Fuller played Ince in to slot past Schmeichel but the linesman’s flag was raised and City went in at the break a goal down and still in the game.

City looked threatening in the second half, but couldn’t find the net. Nugent’s inviting ball across the goalmouth, miscued by Vardy from close in being the worst example.
Pearson re-shuffled in the 66th minute bringing Schlupp and Taylor-Fletcher on for Dyer and Nugent.
In this season of penalties City found a way back from 12 yards with 18 minutes remaining. Drinkwater was impeded in the box by Robinson after being played in by Taylor-Fletcher and Konchesly completed the job from the spot.
Just over a minute later the travelling City fans were celebrating again when a headed Blackpool clearance sat up nicely for King who found the top left hand corner with a lovely 20 yard half-volley.
Sadly City couldn’t hang on for victory. Schmeichel needlessly raced out of his goal to meet a 90th minute corner, flattening McKenzie in the process and Ince made no mistake from 12 yards to share the points.
