Leicester Make History at Pride Park

Derby County 0:1 Leicester City

City just edged a tight game at Pride Park, with the winning margin being a Lee Grant own goal ten minutes before the break…

Nigel Pearson made two changes with Wood and Schlupp coming into a 4-3-3 formation, replacing Whitbread and Konchesky.

The Rams pushed forward early on but City had the best chance when a Wood shot deflected off Nugent but was saved by Grant.
In the 20th minute a lucky ricochet from a midfield challenge sent Vardy in on goal but Grant was smartly out to block his effort.
With chances few and far between Schmeichel then got down well to deny Forsyth at the near post.
City then enjoyed a slice of luck taking a 35th minute lead.  From a James corner Moore nodded the ball back across goal. Vardy’s speculative back heel  was cleared off the line by Coutts, but only as far as his goalkeeper’s back for a bizarre own goal.
Soon after Wood headed narrowly over as City threatened to extend their lead.

Nugent went close early in the second half but Derby had a better spell for a while.
Hughes and then Bryson went close, before Schmeichel produced a brilliant save to deny Freeman and another to block Keogh.
Knockaert and Dyer then came on for Wood and James.
Vardy was a thorn in the Rams side battling his way through only to see his effort saved by Grant, before being replaced by Waghorn for the last ten minutes.
City managed to weather a late storm, with Schmeichel to the rescue a couple of times, to claim all three points and win the first two away league games for the first time in the club’s history.
