Shrews give Leicester food for thought…

Shrewsbury Town 2:0 Leicester City

Nigel Pearson was given plenty to think about as City went down 2-0 to Shrewsbury at the Greenhous Meadow on Saturday, two weeks before the start of the season.
The League One side scored a goal in each half – Terry Gornall and Marvin Morgan both taking advantage of slack defensive work.
Jermaine Beckford was missing through illness again and Jamie Vardy’s performance was a highlight in an other lacklustre performance.

City: Schmeichel, De Laet, Morgan, Moore, Konchesky, Marshall (Waghorn 61), James (King HT), Danns (Drinkwater HT), Dyer (Gallagher 61, Futacs (Vardy HT), Nugent (Schlupp HT).
Subs not used: St Ledger, Logan, Parkes, Kennedy, Peltier, Hopper.

Attendance: 1,800.

Leicester off to a winning start…

Hinckley United 1:4 Leicester City

Leicester City started their pre-season programme with a 4-1 win at Hinckley United on Tuesday night…

City had a totally different line-up for each half starting with:  Conrad Logan, Ritchie De Laet, Cian Bolger, Tom Parkes, Paul Konchesky, Paul Gallagher, Andy King, Matty James, Jeff Schlupp, Marko Futacs, Martyn Waghorn.

City went ahead after 90 seconds when King was on hand to punish an error by United keeper Peel.
But after near misses from King and Waghorn, the sides went in level at half time following a well-taken equaliser from Green who curled in a 20 yarder.

City’s second half line-up was trialist keeper Dusan Pernis, Liam Moore, Lee Peltier, Wes Morgan, Tom Kennedy, Ben Marshall, Neil Danns, Danny Drinkwater, Lloyd Dyer. Jamie Vardy, David Nugent.
Marshall and Vardy both went close, before Nugent restored City’s lead in the 50th minute.

Nugent then set Vardy up for the third, and Marshall produced a trademark long-range effort into the corner to complete a 4-1 victory.

Happy New Kit Day!

IT’S HERE! IT’S HERE!…. The New Leicester City kit…

Okay, there’s always bound to be a sense of anti-climax after such a protracted and teasing campaign, but we like it.
It looks like what it is, a design by a more prestigious company than we have had in recent season, with all due respect to Joker, Burdy and Bongo…
The first official image was leaked onto the internet last night when the launch posters were put up around the KPS and the various design guesses going around proved largely to be correct.
The shirt is: “Inspired by those worn by the Italian national team during the 1950s, the new shirt is a classic design featuring the Club’s bespoke ‘reflex blue'” so, for the time being, Leicester City are not ‘royal blue’.

Prices are:
Adults Short Sleeve £42; Adult Long Sleeve £45
Juniors £30
Adult Shorts £20; Juniors Shorts £15
Adult Socks £10; Juniors Socks £8
Toddler Kit Pack (shirt, shorts and socks) £30

The kit will be officially launched at a special open training session today, which will be free for all supporters, who will watch from the Family Stand, entry from 10am.

Goodbye and Good Riddance…

Ten years ago today Leicester City player Dennis Wise was sent home from a pre-season tour of Finland…

This was following a dispute over a game of cards in which Wise’s team mate Callum Davidson suffered a fractured cheekbone.
Wise was later sacked for his part in this incident.

Thirty Years Ago – Goodbye to Jock

Thirty years ago this week Leicester City fans were shocked by the news that Jock Wallace had returned to Scotland after four highly eventful seasons in charge at Filbert Street…

The man who had pulled the club up by its collar and got them promoted by sheer force of will had left a huge impression on Leicester supporters, who were devastated to hear Motherwell announcing him as their new manager on July 15 1982.

The Leicester Mercury reported: “Motherwell expect to name Jock Wallace as their new manager tomorrow afternoon regardless of Leicester City’s attempts to keep him at Filbert Street. But, as the wrangle moved out of the board rooms into law offices, the Scottish Premier League club’s directors were unavailable for further comment and the whereabouts of Wallace himself are unknown. Yesterday, City refused to accept Wallace’s resignation, hoping to make him abide by the conditions of his contract, and they said they had reported Motherwell to the Football League for an irregular approach…”

City may have lost Wallace, but that didn’t stop them getting promoted back to the First Division in 1982-83 under Gordon Milne.
