It’s that time of year… seven squad members have not been offered new contracts at City.
The biggest, and least surprising, name on the list is that of former captain Stephen Clemence, who signed from Birmingham in July 2007. Towards the end of his first season he suffered a calf injury. During the summer he had an operation on his Achilles’ heel which he never properly recovered from and he played no part in the past two seasons. Effectively ended two years ago, his playing career is now officially over.
Wayne Brown’s future remains in doubt following a bizarre political row in which some teamates were offended at the centre-half’s boast that he voted BNP in the General Election. Notts County are thought to be interested should Brown not kiss and make up with those he offended.
Definitely staying is 35 year old Nolberto Solano who has impressed enough this season to be offered a new six month contract.
There is no word on Nigel Pearson’s contract negotiations, with the City boss having just one year left on his current deal. He commented: “The ball is very much in the club’s court in terms of the next stage. We will see how things develop.”
