Preston North End 2:1 Leicester City
City failed to build on a good start and crashed out of the League Cup at Preston…
City were beaten for the first time this season in a League Cup 2nd Round tie at Deepdale on Tuesday night.
Nigel Pearson made five changes to his side, with Morrison, Powell and (for the first time this season) Tunchev starting in defence and Adams and King replacing Dyer and Wellens in midfield.
But this re-jigged City side got off to a great start, when Adams got on the end of a N’Guessan cross to give City a 6th minute lead.
Sadly for City this lead only lasted 8 minutes as a Brown shot took a big deflection off a City defender, leaving Weale stranded.
The rest of the half saw an entertaining, end to end game. Weale pulled off good saves from Brown and Nolan, while at the other end Morrison had a header cleared off the line and Fryatt went close with a shot.
The second half was more one-sided with City doing most of the defending.
Weale made a another good save from Sedgwick, but could do nothing to prevent Brown nodding home a Nolan cross in the 65th minute.
Nigel Pearson introduced Dyer, Dickov and new boy Kermorgant to try and get City back in the game, but Preston remained in charge.
Fryatt went close, and Weale came up for a late corner, but City couldn’t find a way through and are out of the League Cup for another year.
