Images of Filbert Street

Many thanks to Simon Brynjolffssen who has sent us these photos of Filbert Street…

“I saw an old link on your blog asking for any pictures of Filbert Street. Attached are some shots I took in July 1988. I basically wandered into the ground as nobody was around except for the groundsman. Inside the old main stand I explored the gymnasium, some sort of board-room and the dressing rooms. Security wasn’t too tight in those days!”

The Main Stand’s Farewell

This set of images were taken on 1st May 1993, when Leicester met Bristol City. It was the last game for the old Main Stand at Filbert Street .
Built in 1921, the Main Stand served the club for 72 years… its successor, the Carling Stand, did not see its tenth birthday.
The bulldozers and demolition balls moved in straight after this 0-0 draw, and City’s ‘home’ play-off semi-final had to be played at the City Ground, Nottingham.
