Watford were the better side overall on the day, and it would have been unjust if the penalty had gone in. But I’d still have gladly taken the win, and apologised profusely.

I don’t really agree that “over the campaign as a whole, Nigel Pearson’s men had fallen short.” The results since the end of January have been poor, but prior to that – in fact, until the middle of March – we were always in the play-off places.

I just hope we can keep the core of the squad together – including the managerial team – and finish the job next season.

The problem with rigid formations nowadays is that once you have been found out once then it is by the whole league, Unfamiliarity with continental systems and a doggedness to stick with tactics that excelled in league 1 are probably Pearsons only weaknesses, everything else he has in spades IMO.
It should not be so difficult to ship in a few German or Italian coaches to work with the players but ultimately Pearson has to delve deep in the coaching manuals and learn his stuff.

However it’s not that simple and both owner and the fans will have to allow that such transitions are never instant, for example we (Watford) didn’t really start playing til November.

Otherwise I thought you looked a very decent outfit for much of Friday’s game, you certainly have better and fitter players than Cardiff,

One of my earliest memories was a certain 17yr old almost single handedly demolishing us in the cup many years ago … I forget his name, Linebacker or something like that ;D
