There is a certain logic to the rumours linking Emile Heskey with a return to his home-town club. The big striker enjoyed a fantastic time at Filbert Street during Martin O’Neill’s Golden Age, before leaving for Liverpool in 2000.
Although that move was the beginning of the end of those great times, City did have a war chest of £11M to spend, unfortunately it was not placed in capable hands.
So should Heskey return?
The man who dipped into his own pocket to help save the club in the dark days of 2002 has royal blue credentials, even though he did claim to be a life-long Liverpool fan when he departed for Anfield.
A second coming would appeal to the romantics among City support, but would he still be able to do the job?
The raw teenager we used to know is now 33 and not getting regular first team football at Villa.
Depending on how much he has left in the tank he could either be a roaring success against Championship defences… or injury prone and a non-event. They do say never go back. Steve Guppy tried it and probably wished he hadn’t…
So what would you do? Bring Emile back…. or not?
